Animal Wildlife Policy

Here at shoppingtown.info we are committed to animal welfare and the protection of native, endangered, and threatened species.

Please read our policy guidelines below to see what animal products can be bought and sold on shoppingtown.info. If you see a listing that you believe violates our policies, please report it to us.

You can sell some animal and wildlife products, though there are some things that can't be listed on shoppingtown.info because of various laws and government regulations, both locally and internationally.

Your listing for animal and wildlife products must include the following

  • The age, nature and origin of the specimen
  • The common and species name
  • Photos of documentation identifying the species and origin of the specimen
  • Where applicable, inform buyers that permits may be required for import and export of the item

The supply and trade in illegally acquired items can result in prosecution, and will not be allowed on shoppingtown.info.

Below is a list of Animal and Wildlife Products which specifies what you can and can?t sell on shoppingtown.info. For all allowed items, please ensure as seller that you follow postage restrictions and comply with all applicable laws, licence and permit requirements.

Animals

Pets and other live animals may not be listed on shoppingtown.info.

Animal parts, pelt or skin

Faux or reproductions of animal products can be sold. The listing must state if the items is faux, synthetic or reproduction of an animal product.

The listing and sale of animal pelts and skins is not allowed on shoppingtown.info.

The listing of any animal part, pelt or skin from endangered or threatened species or any species listed on CITES Appendix I is expressly prohibited, and may result in criminal action.

Animal traps

We do not allow the listing of steel jaw animal traps of any kind. Further prohibited traps include bear traps, steel jaw leghold traps, animal glue traps, shock collars and "Opera house" nets or traps

Flora

Flora from non-endangered or non-threatened species may generally be listed on shoppingtown.info. Any listing in this regard must comply with local laws, and the policies of the site. We also allow the listing of artificially propagated plants.

Restricted

International trade in specimens of Appendix II species may be authorised if an export permit or reexport certificate is granted

Examples: Cristobal, palisander, rosewood, sandalwood, fire corals, almost all orchids, cacti

Not allowed

Species listed under Appendix I of the CITES

Ivory or bone

The sale of any form of ivory is strictly prohibited on shoppingtown.info, including the sale of bones from animals that produce ivory. We further do not allow listings for bone from non-ivory producing, non-endangered or non-threatened animals

Man-made resin, or vegetable ivory, may be listed as long as the listing description specifically states what the item is made of.

Crocodile, alligator and caiman products

The sale or listing of any products derived from all endangered or threatened crocodile species are prohibited. In addition, for non-endangered or non-threatened species, sellers and buyers of these products must comply with CITES requirements.

Australian laws

There are many more products made from endangered or threatened wildlife than those listed here. In addition to Shoppingtown policy, state and territory governments may also have their own laws about trading native wildlife items. You could face severe penalties if you break the law, so make sure you understand your responsibilities

CITES

At shoppingtown.info we subscribe to the appendices as set out by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which places species into three appendices based on their conservation status and risk from trade. We refer all users to CITES and confirm that the sale of any animal product disallowed by CITES will be prohibited on shoppingtown.info.
