Payments Surcharge Policy
Users of shoppingtown.info who choose to impose a surcharge on their transactions for payments made using a debit, credit or prepaid card or other ordinary forms of payment such as PayPal must ensure the level of the surcharge is not excessive. Users can recover the applicable costs of accepting these payments methods, however excessive charges are prohibited and may open users up to complaints with the Australian Competition Commission.
What are the guidelines?
In general, the surcharges you can impose will be no greater than the amount you have been charged by your bank or payment facilitator, as the amount of the surcharge must not exceed your applicable costs of accepting that payment type.
Users must further not make false or misleading representations about the price of their goods or services, or engage in component or partial pricing, where the upfront advertised price only constitutes part of the total price of the goods or services.
